God's Journal
From the Archives | 12/22/98
I have a stack of old notebooks in which I wrote random stuff many years ago—poems, lists, maxims, observations, song lyrics… The notebooks have been in deep storage, but recently I’ve begun looking through them again. Here and there, I come across some moderately interesting words I’ve completely forgotten about.
This short piece (not sure what to call it—A poem? A musing? Amusing?) is from December 22nd, 1998. I find it interesting, personally, but I’m sure part of my interest lies in the fact that I’m deeply intrigued to encounter an earlier me.
Even if you’re not intrigued to encounter an earlier me, maybe you’ll find some part that’s worthwhile for you today—
God’s Journal (12/22/98)
I’d like to see God’s journal; to read what He writes.
For instance, what does God say about Creation? Is it still good? Is He still proud?
Does God have regrets about the whole fiasco?
Are there poems He’s written (in the journal) that no one has read?
Is His meter solid? Is He better than Shakespeare?
Has God ever composed a love sonnet to me?
I’ll bet He thinks of the best metaphors.
I wonder if God laments to Himself—or only through the Prophets.
Are His sorrows and disappointments gathered together and released through His pen? Does He even use a pen?
Would God ever share His journal with me? If He did, I’d promise not to share His private thoughts. But maybe I wouldn’t understand. I suppose His problems are significantly bigger than mine.
If God were ever to accidentally leave His journal lying around, like at a café, some enterprising person could make a lot of money by publishing it. Perhaps as a supplement to the Scriptures.
The Infinite Closet: Chapter Four is coming real soon! If you missed the first few chapters, you can catch up here before the next one drops…
